Pierre Mankowski

Pierre Mankowski intrigues me because of his arc from striker to coach. A goalscorer who later devotes himself to developing others tends to teach attacking football with a sharper feel for its instincts, and that crossover fascinates me. Born in Amiens to a family of Polish descent, he has since wandered all the way to advising Caledonian Braves in Scotland, a genuinely restless football life. Born in 1951 and still close to the game, he embodies a quiet, durable devotion to the sport. He may never have been a headline name, but men like him are the connective tissue of football, and I admire that.
