My Take

I will never get over how Yoshiyuki Tomino smuggled real human darkness into what was supposed to be a toy commercial. He builds Mobile Suit Gundam in 1979, basically invents the "real robot" genre where war is ugly and politics are messy, and then spends decades killing off characters fans adore until they nickname him "the Genocidal Tomino." That is not branding, that is conviction. His dialogue is so weird and clipped it became its own thing people call "Tomino-go," which honestly feels less like a quirk and more like a private language he invented. What gets me, though, is the worry underneath it all: every show feels like a man genuinely losing sleep over whether humanity will grow up in time. Still cranking out work past eighty, still picking fights with the future. Leave him off any honest list of anime history and you are just talking in your sleep.
