PnB Rock

PnB Rock occupies a tender, painful place for me. Rakim Allen turned a tough Philadelphia upbringing into music that constantly slipped between rap and melody, finding sweetness inside hard truths. Signing with Atlantic in 2015 felt like the start of a long arc, which makes his death at thirty in 2022 so hard to sit with. What I admire is that his voice carried both vulnerability and swagger without ever feeling forced. He never got the full career he deserved, but the catalog he left behind still resonates, and I think his melodic instinct quietly shaped a generation of rappers who sing.
