Ray Luzier is a drummer's drummer. Joining Korn as a full member in 2009 meant stepping into a band with a fierce, established identity and making it his own, which is harder than it sounds. The nu metal sound leans heavily on rhythmic punch, so a drummer there is not background; he is the engine. I like that he keeps an active public presence through his own site and social accounts while letting his playing carry the reputation. Holding down the kit for a band that big, for well over a decade, tells me everything about his consistency and his chops.
