My Take
To me, Residente is far more than a rapper, he is a poet who can land a punch with words. Born René Pérez Joglar in Puerto Rico, he led Calle 13 to a wall of Latin Grammys before going solo in 2015, winning 29 in all, more than any other Latin artist. What I admire most is the range, that he carries the weight of a philanthropist and film director alongside the music. He channels both rage and tenderness without flinching, and that kind of backbone is exactly what I want from an artist.
