Richard Burgon

Richard Burgon interests me as a study in conviction politics. A Cambridge-educated employment lawyer who chose the Labour left and served as Shadow Justice Secretary under Corbyn, he represents Leeds East with a clear ideological compass rather than careful triangulation. I find that combination compelling: the analytical rigor of his training paired with an unapologetically partisan stance. Politicians who plant a flag and defend it tend to age better in my estimation than those who chase the center. Whether or not one shares his views, Burgon strikes me as someone who knows exactly what he believes, and that earns a measure of my respect.
