Riyad Mahrez

Riyad Mahrez is genuinely one of those players who made you rethink what a winger could look like — that slow-burn dribble, the drop of the shoulder, and then suddenly the defender is twisted in knots and the ball is in the net. His 2015-16 season at Leicester City was the stuff of fairy tales; winning PFA Players' Player of the Year in the same year his club pulled off arguably the greatest upset in Premier League history felt almost too perfect. At Manchester City he could look quiet for stretches and then conjure a decisive moment in a big European night when it mattered most, including that 2023 Champions League run. Captaining Algeria to the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019 cemented his legacy beyond club football, and I think history will be kinder to him than his inconsistent reputation sometimes suggests.
