My Take

Rob Riggle is one of those performers whose backstory reframes everything you've watched him in. Before the loud, blustery comedy roles, he was a genuine United States Marine officer who reached lieutenant colonel, which is not a punchline. I think that's why his bombastic characters land so well. There's real conviction underneath the silliness, the bearing of someone who actually commanded.
