My Take
Robert Del Naja, or 3D, is one of those figures I find more interesting the longer I look. He came out of Bristol's graffiti scene and the Wild Bunch, and that visual-artist sensibility bleeds into Massive Attack's brooding, cinematic sound. As the band's one constant member he has effectively become its conscience and aesthetic compass for decades. The Ivor Novello recognition is deserved, but what really earns my respect is his refusal to soften or chase trends. There is even that persistent Banksy rumor swirling around him, which only adds to the mystique. A genuine, uncompromising artist.
