Robert Gonçalves Santos, simply Robert, sparks the imagination for me precisely because the record is sparse. An attacking midfielder out of São Gonçalo near Rio, he embodies that classic Brazilian arc: a working-class neighborhood, a ball, and a dream of climbing through the game. At 175 cm and playing in the creative pocket, he'd have lived on technique and vision rather than physique, which is the kind of footballer I most enjoy watching. He's already retired, but I'd love to dig up old footage and see what flair he brought to the pitch in his prime.
