My Take

Robin Schulz is, to my ear, one of dance music's most underrated craftsmen. His 2014 remix of Mr. Probz's 'Waves' detonated worldwide and earned a Grammy nomination, but what keeps me coming back is the melancholy threaded through his grooves. A lot of producers chase the drop; Schulz chases a feeling, and the tracks linger because of it. Coming out of Osnabrück rather than some glamorous club capital seems fitting for an artist who lets the music, not the persona, do the talking. I rate him as a builder of mood, and that is rarer than chart numbers suggest.
