My Take

Rossy de Palma is one of those faces I can never mistake for anyone else, and I mean that as the highest compliment. To me she's inseparable from Pedro Almodovar's world, and I love that she turned a look the fashion industry once called unconventional into a signature you'd cross a room to see. Films like Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown and Parallel Mothers proved she's a real actress, not a novelty. The Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres and the Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts feel earned. I see a Mallorca-born artist who never apologized for being herself.
