My Take
Ruby Wax earns my respect for the range of her seriousness. Classically trained with the Royal Shakespeare Company, she conquered British comedy as an American outsider, which is already an impressive trick. But what elevates her, in my view, is the third act: becoming one of the most credible mental health campaigners in public life, recognized among the BBC's 100 Women in 2014. Comedians often understand pain better than anyone; Wax chose to say so out loud and do something about it. That fusion of wit, scholarship, and candor is rare, and I find it genuinely admirable.
