My Take

I have a soft spot for Akira Ikegami, the guy who can take the most tangled news story and hand it back to you in words a kid could follow. He cut his teeth at NHK, did the unglamorous reporting grind for decades, and somehow came out the other side as the friendly explainer-in-chief of Japanese TV, flip charts and all. What I love is that he never wears it like a flex. On election-night specials he'll smile politely and then ask the question every politician was hoping nobody would, and you can feel the room tighten. Born up in Matsumoto, Keio-educated, but zero stuffiness. Anybody can leave a hard topic hard and sound smart doing it; Ikegami does the extra work of making it clear, and to me that patience is the whole point of him.
