Ryo Fukawa

Ryo Fukawa is a Japanese comedian, musician, actor and disc jockey, born 19 August 1974 in Yokohama and a graduate of Keio University's economics department. He broke through with a deadpan stand-up style built on short, oddly gentle one-liners delivered in his trademark white headband, and he has stayed on television ever since, usually in smaller roles, trading on a boyish look and a childlike temperament that has aged strangely well. What interests me is the second track. Under the name ROCKETMAN he works as a musician and composer, and he has kept that going for long enough that it stopped being a comedian's side hobby somewhere along the way. Plenty of TV personalities dabble in music; very few sustain it. He has also been part of the comedy group No Plan. He is not the loudest voice in any room he enters, and I suspect that is deliberate. Holding a modest, reliable position in Japanese television for three decades is far harder than burning bright for two years.
