My Take

Sam Ryder represents the best version of internet-era stardom to me. When the 2020 lockdown shrank everyone's world, he used TikTok covers not as a gimmick but as genuine connection, and the joy in those clips was impossible to fake. What earns my deeper respect is what came after: signing with Parlophone, then walking away in 2023 to chart his own course. Plenty of viral acts cling to whatever machine picks them up; Ryder chose independence at his peak of visibility. That tells me the Essex-born singer understands his own voice, literally and figuratively. I expect his career to outlast the platform that launched it, which is the truest test.

Overview

Sam Ryder Robinson (born 25 June 1989) is an English singer, songwriter, producer, actor, composer and social media personality. He rose to prominence in 2020 after posting music covers on TikTok during the first UK lockdown of the COVID-19 pandemic, and signed to Parlophone Records before parting ways with them in 2023.
