My Take

Sarah Harding occupies a tender place in pop history for me. Plucked from Popstars: The Rivals in 2002, she became the most rock-and-roll edge of Girls Aloud, a group that defined an era of British chart pop, and she branched into acting, directing and composing with real restlessness. Her death in 2021 at just 39 still stings; there was clearly so much left to give. I admire performers who throw themselves wholly into the work, and Harding had that fearless, slightly dangerous spark. I prefer to remember the brightness she brought rather than the sadness of her too-early exit.
