My Take
Scotty Nguyen's arc is the kind I never tire of. Born in Nha Trang, Vietnam, he crossed the world and climbed to the very top of poker, taking the 1998 WSOP Main Event and the 2008 $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. World Championship, five bracelets in all, and earning Hall of Fame induction in 2013. What fascinates me is the contrast between his warm, talkative table presence and the ice-cold judgment he shows in big pots. He is the immigrant dream played out in real time, and I find that genuinely moving.
