My Take

Shawn Crahan, the Clown, is to me the calculating heart behind Slipknot's chaos. He co-founded the band in Des Moines back in 1995 and is now the last original member standing, designated #6. The masks and the beer-keg percussion can read as pure shock value, but spend time with it and you find genuine theatrical craft underneath. That he also directs films tells you this is an artist, not just a provocateur. I respect how he's sustained a coherent vision across decades. Beneath all that noise sits a real and surprisingly disciplined aesthetic.
