My Take

For most viewers Helberg will forever be Howard Wolowitz, and winning a Critics' Choice Award for that role proves how fully he inhabited it. But what intrigues me is the gap between the broad sitcom comedy and the precise, trained actor underneath. A Tisch School graduate, he has the technical chops most comic actors only fake, and his timing has an almost musical exactness. I suspect he is a far more serious dramatic talent than the sitcom let him show, and the fact that he writes as well suggests an artist still discovering his own range. He is one I would happily watch take bigger swings.
