My Take

I'll be honest: when I hear the name Snow, my brain instantly cues up the chorus of "Informer" before I can even picture the man. That's the blessing and the curse of one of the most inescapable hits of 1992, seven weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. I think it's a little unfair that he became shorthand for one-hit-wonder jokes, because the Toronto kid born Darrin O'Brien genuinely earned a Juno for his reggae work. What I find compelling is the toughness underneath the novelty: a Canadian rapper leaning into dancehall when almost nobody around him was. I'd love to know how he feels about that song now.
