Sōhei Kamiya

Whatever one makes of his politics, Sohei Kamiya is a genuinely interesting case study in how power gets built in the social-media era. He didn't inherit a machine, he founded a party and rode it into the House of Councillors largely on words and online reach. From a small town in Fukui to a national platform, that arc fascinates me as a story of sheer organizational will. As a writer he commits his ideas to paper rather than hiding behind slogans, which I respect even where I'd push back. He represents, for better or worse, a new template for Japanese political insurgency worth watching closely.
