My Take

Cikalleshi is the sort of grinder I instinctively root for. A striker out of Kavajë, Albania, he debuted at 17 for his hometown club Besa, then bounced through Skënderbeu, Tirana, and even Incheon in South Korea, spending stretches as a free agent. That is a hard, unglamorous road, and at 185 cm he made his living doing the front line's dirty work. I am drawn to players from smaller footballing nations who push out into the wider world and carry their country on their backs. His career has grit, and grit is something I will always cheer for.

He made his professional debut in 2007 as a 17-year-old with his hometown club Besa, and would then go on loan to Skënderbeu, Tirana and South Korean side Incheon United between 2011 and 2012.
