My Take
Stephen Merchant is, in my view, one of comedy's sharpest architects hiding inside a 201 cm frame. His work with Ricky Gervais on The Office rewired modern television humour, and the Emmy and Writers Guild awards confirm he is a writer first. Yet I love that he refuses to stay behind the desk, lending his voice to Portal 2 and stepping in front of the camera himself. His gift for mining awkwardness into laughter is unmistakable, and his willingness to turn his own height and gawkiness into material shows real comic generosity. A genuine double threat I keep rooting for.
