My Take
Steve Grand earned a place in internet history when his self-made video for All-American Boy went viral within a week in July 2013, vaulting him onto Good Morning America and CNN overnight. What impresses me is not the flash of that moment but what came after: rather than fading as a one-hit curiosity, he kept writing, playing piano and guitar, and standing on his own terms. A Chicago kid who chose to build a lasting career from a viral spark has my respect. I'm drawn to artists with the conviction to author their own songs and own their identity, and Grand fits that mold.
