Takayuki Suzui

Takayuki Suzui is one of those people whose job title refuses to sit still: actor, screenwriter, film director, broadcast writer, and chairman of the talent agency Creative Office Cue, all at once. The nickname "Mister" reads less like affection than an admission that nobody can label him in one word. What draws me in is the geography. Born in Akabira and educated at Hokkai-Gakuen University, he never made the standard pilgrimage to Tokyo in order to be taken seriously. He built everything from Hokkaido and let the work travel instead, starting from the modest ground of late-night regional television. I suspect he simply never wanted to choose a single trade, and that refusal is exactly why the north kept him and the rest of the country found him anyway.
