My Take
I'll be honest, I'm a sucker for the unusual origin story, and Takako Suzuki has one: an Obihiro kid who went off to school in Canada and came back to wade into the rough-and-tumble of Japanese politics. Being Muneo Suzuki's daughter means she grew up breathing the smoke of real political battles, and you can tell she didn't get coddled by it so much as hardened. I don't pretend to follow every policy fight, but there's something I respect about someone who first ran in 2012 in place of a father barred from standing, and has since won six elections. She strikes me as the warm-smile-but-iron-spine type, the kind you'd rather have on your side than across the table. If she's genuinely sweating for Hokkaido, count me in.
