My Take
Tantoo Cardinal is, to me, a figure of profound integrity. A Cree and Metis actress from Alberta, she has spent decades not only acting on screen and stage but building the very institutions that let Indigenous performance flourish in Canada. The Order of Canada, the Earle Grey Award, the Governor General's honour, a role in Killers of the Flower Moon: these mark a career that is also a mission. What moves me is that she carries her heritage as both pride and responsibility, refusing to let anyone else define the story. Her life itself reads like a landmark work, and I find it deeply admirable.
