Thiago Martins

Thiago Martins is one of those unsung backline anchors who quietly makes everyone around him look better — the kind of center-back you only fully appreciate when he's out injured. Born in Minas Gerais, Brazil, in 1995, he made his way to Major League Soccer with New York City FC, where his composure on the ball and aerial presence gave the side genuine defensive backbone. He's not a flashy player — don't expect lung-busting runs or Hollywood passes — but he reads the game well and brings a calm, almost old-school Brazilian solidity to the position. For a club that often gets celebrated for its attacking identity and possession style, having a reliable defender anchoring things at the back is genuinely underrated, and Martins fits that role without any fuss.
