Tillotama Shome

Tillotama Shome is, to my mind, a conscience of Indian independent cinema. Born in Kolkata in 1979 and educated at New York University, she could have chased commercial stardom after breaking through in Monsoon Wedding, but instead built a career on soulful, character-driven work, crowned by her Filmfare Critics Award for Sir. I admire actors who choose substance over spectacle, and she does it with rare consistency. She also has her own official site. She is exactly the kind of performer who deserves a far wider audience.
