Tim Farron

Tim Farron interests me as a politician who climbed from outside the usual establishment. Born in Preston in 1970 and educated at Newcastle, he worked in higher education before entering Parliament, and that grounding shows. Leading the Liberal Democrats from 2015 to 2017 is a thankless job, steering a third party through hostile terrain, yet he has held his Westmorland seat since 2005 with real durability. His continued advocacy on environment and rural affairs reads to me as conviction rather than calculation. I respect figures who choose principle over the easy glide of the political center, and Farron strikes me as one of them.
