Tobizaru Masaya

Okay, I have a soft spot for Tobizaru, and I'm not even sorry about it. The whole appeal of sumo for me isn't the giants flattening everyone, it's guys like this one, undersized scrappers who survive on speed and nerve instead of sheer mass. He's a Tokyo kid, Edogawa born, and as of 2023 the smallest wrestler in the top division. He skitters, slips sideways, slaps, latches onto someone twice his size and just refuses to let go until somehow he's won. Watching that, I tense up like I'm out there with him. There's something stubborn and clever about his whole approach that I find genuinely lovable. He's the kind of wrestler you can't help but root for.
