Tokuma Nishioka

I'll be honest, Tokuma Nishioka is one of those faces I clock instantly without ever quite knowing the name, and the moment he steps into a scene the whole thing sharpens up. Born in Yokohama back in 1946 and working since he was a kid, he's got that lived-in gravitas you simply can't fake, and that low, gravel-edged voice does half the acting before he even moves. What I love is the range hiding in plain sight: he can play a smiling gentleman one minute and a guy you absolutely do not want to cross the next, all with a flick of the eyes. He's never the flashy lead chewing scenery, just the steady veteran who lends a production weight. A real craftsman, and I'm always glad to see him show up.
