My Take

Harper is the kind of director I trust precisely because he refuses to repeat himself. Peaky Blinders' menace, War & Peace's sweep, Wild Rose's scruffy heart and The Aeronauts' sky-bound ambition all came from the same hands, and that range is rare. He is not a self-promoting auteur chasing a signature look; instead he serves each story on its own terms, which I think is a quieter kind of mastery. British film and television are better for craftsmen like him, and I genuinely look forward to whatever genre he decides to disappear into next.
