My Take

Toni Silva's story moves me because of where it starts. Born in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, hardly a footballing powerhouse, he carved a path across Europe and now tears down the flank as a winger for Żabbar St. Patrick in Malta. I'm drawn to careers like his that prove geography need not be destiny: a fast, fearless wide player can travel the world on the strength of his own two feet. The winger's role suits the journey, all speed and nerve and improvisation. He may never headline the biggest leagues, but to keep earning a living abroad, far from home, is its own kind of triumph that I deeply respect.
