My Take
Van Morrison is my favorite kind of contradiction: a famously gruff man who makes some of the warmest music ever recorded. The Belfast in him never left; that blend of soul, jazz, and Celtic mysticism feels like weather rolling in off the Irish coast. He has the knighthood, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, the songwriting honors, and seems to care about none of it, which I suspect is exactly why the work stays pure. Sixty years into a career, he still sings as if the song matters more than the audience. I find that stubbornness genuinely moving. The grumpiness is the price of admission; the transcendence is the show.
