Jeff Russo is one of those rare artists who has lived two full creative lives. As a founding member of the rock band Tonic he already earned his place, but his second act as a screen composer, scoring the likes of Fargo and Star Trek, is what truly fascinates me. The leap from songwriter to acclaimed dramatic composer demands an entirely different language, and he speaks it fluently. The fact that he is openly a Trekkie only deepens my respect; here is a man scoring the worlds he loves. To me, Russo embodies the storyteller who happens to work in sound.
