My Take
Verne Troyer was so much more than the eight seconds of Mini-Me that most people remember, and that is exactly what fascinates me about him. He turned a body shaped by cartilage-hair hypoplasia into a magnet for the camera, carrying scenes through sheer charisma and timing. To go from small-town Sturgis, Michigan to a worldwide pop-culture fixture took grit that gets overlooked. I find his blend of comic fearlessness and visible vulnerability genuinely moving. His death in 2018 cut short a presence that was warmer and braver than the punchline suggested, and I think we undervalued him.
