My Take
Vico Ortiz is the kind of performer I root for instinctively. A Puerto Rican actor and drag king from San Juan, they broke through as Jim Jimenez in Our Flag Means Death, a role that let warmth and mischief coexist. What strikes me most is that their visibility is not incidental but purposeful, recognized by both the Human Rights Campaign and GLAAD. I admire artists who treat presence itself as a form of advocacy without ever turning preachy. Ortiz seems to manage that balance, bringing genuine joy to the screen while quietly widening the space for others. That combination of talent and generosity earns my lasting respect.
