Vince Clarke

Vince Clarke is, to me, one of the great unsung architects of synth-pop. He wrote the early Depeche Mode sound, built Yazoo, and has spent decades powering Erasure, all while staying resolutely out of the spotlight. What I respect is his commitment to craft over fame, the producer and composer content to make the machines sing rather than chase the microphone. In an industry obsessed with frontmen and fleeting hits, his steady, almost artisanal devotion to electronic songwriting is remarkable. Those bright, insistent synth lines have been moving people for forty years, and that kind of quiet longevity earns my deep admiration.
