My Take
What fascinates me about Vivienne Medrano is that she essentially built a studio out of a YouTube channel. Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss did not come through the traditional pipeline of pitch meetings and network notes; they came from one Maryland-born artist with a hyper-specific vision of a musical, neon-soaked afterlife, and an audience that found her directly. Her style is divisive — loud colors, louder characters — but I would rather have a creator with too much personality than too little. To me she is the clearest proof yet that independent animation can scale without losing its creator's fingerprints.
