My Take

Yukihiro Takahashi was, to me, far more than a drummer. With Yellow Magic Orchestra he laid down some of the most influential rhythms in pop history, yet his solo voice carried a melancholy, urbane elegance that no machine could imitate. The art-school sensibility he honed at Musashino shaped his music and his style alike, from the Sadistic Mika Band onward. I think he made Japanese pop sound effortlessly sophisticated. His passing in 2023 left a real silence, but I keep returning to his records on rainy nights, convinced his influence still hums beneath today's sound.
