My Take
2 Chainz is a glorious late bloomer, and that is the heart of why I rate him. Grinding away in Playaz Circle before breaking out solo, he proved that persistence beats early hype almost every time. The resume is almost comical in its range: rapper, songwriter, actor, former basketball player, businessman, with an Alabama State University degree somewhere in the mix. For a man born in 1977 to carry that much energy and stay culturally relevant is no small feat. His BET-winning gift for collaboration tells me he thrives alongside others, and his outsized personality is exactly the sort that survives in hip-hop for the long haul.
