Agathiyan

Agathiyan is the sort of filmmaker I find quietly heroic. Becoming the first Tamil director to win the National Film Award for Best Direction, with Kadhal Kottai sweeping direction, screenplay, and a Filmfare award, is no small feat in an industry often pigeonholed for spectacle. What draws me in is that he wrote, directed, penned lyrics, and acted, betting on story and language rather than flash. I admire craftsmen who move audiences through structure and words instead of noise, and Agathiyan strikes me as one of those steady, substance-first artists worth remembering.
