My Take
Ahlam is, to me, one of the genuine queens of Gulf pop. Fourteen albums and countless singles out of Abu Dhabi is not just longevity, it is sustained command of a region's musical taste. What seals it for me is the leap to the Arab Idol judging panel: once you are trusted to anoint the next generation, you have crossed from star to institution. That she also acts speaks to range and an appetite for reinvention. In a scene where many voices come and go, she has stayed central for decades. I have real respect for an artist who becomes a cultural landmark.
