Kasumi Arimura

Okay, that smile should honestly be illegal. Kasumi Arimura doesn't have to do much, she just walks into a frame and the whole room softens, and I refuse to believe that's a learnable skill. Finding out she's from Itami in Hyogo clicked something for me, because there's this unfussy Kansai warmth under the polished, wholesome exterior that keeps her from ever feeling like a porcelain doll. People love to file her under "she's just sweet and luminous," but that 2016 Blue Ribbon Best Actress win should retire that take for good. She can slip from sunny morning-drama heroine into quieter, heavier roles without you noticing the gear change, and that range sneaks up on you. She's stretched into voice work too, and I love that quiet ambition hiding behind such a gentle face. Underestimate her at your own risk.
