Akiko Matsuura

What grabs me about Akiko Matsuura is the quiet boldness of her path: an Osaka-born drummer who relocated to the UK and embedded herself in its band scene under the name Keex. That is no small feat, building a musical home in a foreign country with little more than a kit and conviction. Drummers rarely get the spotlight, which is exactly why I respect the ones who keep the engine running from the back. Fronting PRE and Comanechi while also drumming for The Big Pink only deepens the impression of a working musician who lets the playing speak. I would love to hear her behind a live set someday.
