My Take

Alain Delon is the rare case where beauty itself became an artistic instrument. In Purple Noon and Le Samouraï he barely needs dialogue; the stillness of that face carries entire scenes, and I suspect his directors knew they were filming a landscape as much as an actor. What I respect even more is his refusal to remain an ornament — he produced, directed, and wrote, seizing control of an industry that would happily have consumed him. From Sceaux to the Legion of Honour, his life reads like one of his own films: glamorous, guarded, and tinged with melancholy. Cinema will not produce that silhouette again.
