My Take

Andy Hurley is the kind of musician I respect because his story isn't really about fame, it's about the music itself. Before Fall Out Boy made him a household name as their drummer, he was grinding through hardcore punk bands in the Milwaukee scene, which tells me drumming was a genuine calling, not a shortcut to stardom. Joining Fall Out Boy full-time in 2003 put him behind one of the biggest pop-punk acts of the era. I also find it interesting he went through University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. There's a thoughtful, principled streak there that I think shaped the band more than people credit.
