My Take

Basso has quietly become one of the more reliable young faces in modern horror, and she has a knack for the wide-eyed, eerily composed teenager that the genre keeps needing. Her work with Mike Flanagan, especially Oculus, is what put her on my radar; she plays fear without overplaying it, which is harder than it looks. The Snowpiercer arc showed she can hold her own in ensemble sci-fi too. I would love to see her get a meaty lead outside of horror, because the instincts are clearly there and the genre has not fully tapped them.

Overview

Annalise Basso (born December 2, 1998) is an American actress and model. She is known for her roles in horror films including Oculus and Ouija: Origin of Evil, the Mike Flanagan and Mike Cahill projects Before I Wake and I Origins, and the science-fiction series Captain Marvel-adjacent and Snowpiercer, where she had a recurring role. She began acting as a child and built much of her early career in the genre space.
